Project Description

Name/Location:  Salt Lake City 16 Inch Steel Gas Line

Year: 2021

Work Done: This project involved replacing an old steel line that had been in the ground too long as well as the gas lines that ran to all of the surrounding homes. The project included excavation, welding the steel lines together, installation of a directional bore steel line, tie-in and welding, backfill, and replacement of asphalt.

Unique Problem

Directional bore projects are always difficult, but this project had the added challenge of running a long and deep line in a busy neighborhood. Engineering criteria required the line to run under existing train tracks, so the installed line was 800 feet long x 34 feet deep. Not only did we have to install the line to requirements, we also needed to provide a way for the local residents to navigate around an 800 foot pipe while we welded and installed it.
